Lahooti Secures British Council Grant to Launch Unique Artist Residency "Echoes of Karoonjhar"

Lahooti is delighted to announce that we have secured an arts residency grant from the British Council, a significant milestone that will enable us to expand our efforts in cultural preservation and innovation. This grant will fund the launch of a groundbreaking residency program, developed in partnership with Invisible Flock, an award-winning interactive arts studio known for their pioneering work in digital preservation.

The Residency Program

Our new residency program, set against the stunning backdrop of Nagar Parker, is designed to blend traditional artistic practices with cutting-edge technology. This initiative aims to create a dynamic and inspiring environment where artists can immerse themselves in the region's rich cultural heritage while exploring new digital frontiers.

Invisible Flock, based in the UK, has a remarkable track record of creating interactive installations and digital artworks that engage with the environment and community. Their expertise in digital preservation aligns perfectly with Lahooti's mission to celebrate and sustain the cultural and artistic heritage of Sindh. Together, we will foster a unique creative space where tradition meets technology.

Location: Nagar Parker

Nagar Parker, with its lush green desert oasis and the majestic Karoonjhar mountains, provides the perfect setting for this residency. This region is not only a source of profound artistic inspiration but also a vibrant community of storytellers, artisans, and musicians. Participants will have the opportunity to engage deeply with the local culture, drawing on its rich history and contemporary expressions.

Our eco-commune at Nagar Parker is a testament to our commitment to sustainability. From solar panels powering our facilities to the use of sustainable materials, we aim to minimize our ecological footprint while creating a conducive environment for artistic expression and innovation.

Objectives of the Residency

The residency program will focus on several key objectives:

1. Cultural Preservation: By documenting and digitizing traditional art forms and practices, we aim to create a lasting archive that can be accessed by future generations.

2. Creative Collaboration: Artists from diverse backgrounds will come together to share ideas, collaborate on projects, and create new works that blend traditional and contemporary techniques.

3. Community Engagement: Residents will work closely with the local community, learning from their experiences and contributing to ongoing cultural and artistic initiatives.

4. Sustainable Practices: Emphasizing eco-friendly practices, the residency will demonstrate how art and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Application and Participation

We invite artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners from around the world to apply for this residency. The application process will be detailed on our website, including eligibility criteria, deadlines, and required materials.
